California homeowners can get up to $8,000 in additional heat pump savings through HEEHRA rebates

Eligible households can stack HEEHRA rebates with federal and local incentives, saving even more.

The heat pump rebates keep on coming for California homeowners. In November 2024, TECH Clean California introduced HEEHRA for single family households, allotting $45 million in rebates for new, energy-efficient heat pump equipment.

The rebate offers eligible California homeowners up to $8,000 in additional incentives, which can be stacked upon other rebate programs, like those instituted by local and federal organizations.

HEEHRA — an acronym for the High-Efficiency Electric Home Rebate Act — is funded by the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) to specifically reduce home energy use to lower costs and climate-impacting greenhouse gas emissions.

Who qualifies for HEEHRA?

Money from HEEHRA is designated to offset the cost of new, efficient home electric equipment for low-to-moderate-income California homeowners.

California residents with single family household incomes between 80% and 150% of the area median income are eligible for up to $4,000 through HEEHRA. Those with incomes less than 80% of the median income are eligible for up to $8,000 through the program.

Homeowners must verify their household income through the HEEHRA Income Portal to confirm eligibility.

To be eligible for the single-family home program, applicants must reside in an existing home (rather than a new construction) that is defined as four or less units. This includes manufactured or mobile homes, duplexes, triplexes, fourplexes, and individual condominiums.

Because area medians vary from county to county, the dollar amount that qualifies a household for some or all of the rebate varies, too.

For example, a single family household of four in San Mateo County with a collective income under $293,700 is eligible for $4,000 in HEEHRA rebates, while those bringing in less than $156,650 annually are eligible for $8,000 in rebates.

A couple in Los Angeles with a collective income under $166,450 are eligible for $4,000 while those bringing in less than $88,800 are eligible for $8,000 in rebates.

Why Quilt supports HEEHRA

Our goal at Quilt is to retire as many furnaces and fossil fuel-powered systems as possible. For U.S. homes to adopt electric power like heat pumps, the technology needs to be something that homeowners delight in, and also, something that’s accessible. With our sleek design and smart features, we’ve got the first part covered. To get our system in the most number of homes, we’re dedicated to supporting and promoting programs that offset the cost of our climate-forward technology.

In addition to handling all the paperwork to take the headache out of rebate applications, Quilt takes the rebates off at the point of purchase, lowering customers’ total before checkout.
