Scrap Mystery Quilt

This is a very quick to piece scrap quilt that can be made with a minimum of six different fabrics (3 lights and 3 darks), it can be done with scraps in your scrap bag from previous quilts or by trading with friends, or it can be done as a charm quilt with every patch a different fabric (it cannot be strip pieced if you are making a charm quilt).

This pattern will make a 36" x 36" quilt top without borders.

Part One

If you are using scraps from your scrap bag you will need the following: 36 darks and 36 lights measuring 2.5" x 2.5" 36 darks and 36 lights measuring 4.5" x 2.5" 36 darks and 36 lights measuring 3.5" x 2.5" If you are using just six different fabrics you will need the following: 1/2 yard each of 1 light (Part Three) and 1 dark (Part One) 1/3 yard each of 1 light and 1 dark (Part Two) 1/4 yard each of 1 light (Part One) and 1 dark (Part Three)

If you are using scraps from your scrap bag you will need fabric to equal the above.

Using the 1/2 yard of dark fabric and the 1/4 yard of light fabric cut the following (or the equivalent from your scrap bag):

light fabric strips 2-1/2 " wide by whatever length (if this comes out of your scrapbag it is whatever length available, if you are cutting from a full piece of fabric is will be approximately 44")

dark fabric strips 4-1/2" wide by whatever length (if this comes out of your scrapbag it is whatever length available, if you are cutting from a full piece of fabric is will be approximately 44")

Strip piece them together so that you will have a strip similar to figure 1 (where the "d" stands for "dark" fabric). (Remember to use 1/4" seams and 12 to 15 stitches per inch).
